16. 在眨眼之间
in the twinkling of an eye
Mulan’s mother instinctively wanted to jump down, but in the twinkling of an eye all carts had swung around.
木兰的母亲不假思索，立刻就要往车下跳。但是在眨眼之间，所有的车都动起来。
in the twinkling of an eye就是very quickly的意思，我们可以文学腔翻译为“瞬息之间；转眼之间”。
短语中的twinkling来自动词twinkle，意思是闪烁，光点闪动，很多人都熟悉的儿歌twinkle, twinkle, little star就是描写小星星一闪一闪的景致。
除了作为动词，twinkle亦可以是名词。
At night, the moon shines and the stars twinkle in the clear sky.
晚上，晴朗的天空中，月儿明亮，星星闪耀。
We can see the twinkles of lights from the city on both sides of the harbour.
我们可以看到海港两岸来自城中的闪闪灯光。
美国五十年代著名影星玛丽莲梦露有一名句，以星光闪烁比喻每个人都可以发光发亮：
Everyone is a star and deserves the right to twinkle.
每个人都是明星，有闪耀的权利。
很早之前我做有道兼职的时候就写过，形容迷妹那种眼睛发光的神态，就可以说eyes twinkle。
On hearing the plan, her eyes twinkled with amusement.
听到那个计划后，她的眼睛闪出很陶醉的光芒。
Her eyes twinkled when her name was announced.
听到公布自己的名字时，她的一双眼睛闪闪发亮。
不过，有时闪烁的眼神也可表达不同的感觉，可以是愉快，也可以是自信、疑惑、淘气等等。
Everyone showed a twinkle of disbelief on hearing his resignation.
听到他辞职的消息，人人都流露难以置信的眼神。
眨眼需时非常少，一瞬即逝，所以twinkling也可用作名词，指十分短暂的时间、瞬间。
Don’t worry. I will be there within a twinkling.
不用担心。我瞬间就会到达那里。
Worries will not disappear in a twinkling.
这些忧虑不会一瞬间消失。
这里的in the twinkling of an eye指一眨眼之间，意思亦一样，形容很迅速，在很短时间内，或者时光飞逝，转瞬即至。
The concert tickets sold out in the twinkling of an eye.
那个音乐会的门票转眼就卖光了。
说的是张学友演唱会门票哇，有趣的是这场戏因为时间问题，是火油自己在家里拍的哈哈，看背景就很奇怪对吧。
In the blink of an eye 就是我们中文里说的瞬间，一眨眼之间，形容速度很快。
这是英语里的一个常用表达，我们经常在生活中用到。这个表达也常用来形容变化来得非常快。有时候会被缩写为 in a blink。
A 70-story skyscraper just rose from the ground in a blink.
眨眼间，一座70层高的大楼拔地而起。
为什么特意发这条，因为本宝宝也可以「她来听我的演唱会」啦！！！！
19. 脸色吓得发白 pale with fright
The maids had come down, too, pale with fright and struck dumb by the news.
丫鬟这时都下车来问，听了这个消息，脸吓得惨白，说不出一句话来。
学到如何描述“吓傻了”：
脸吓得惨白 pale with fright
Pale with fright, they all stared at each other.
他们互相看着，脸色吓得发白。
说不出一句话来；哑口无言 struck dumb
He might have been struck dumb.
他好象突然受到巨大的惊吓，变成哑巴了。
后面那句还写到了：
Mochow, at first dumb with terror, now started to cry.
莫愁最初怕得说不出话来，现在开始哭。
